Lighthouse, 2008, Sound: Isobel Anderson, Directed, Produced, Filmed, Hand-Processed and Edited by Katie Utting

Originally screened as a double projection of two separate 16mm films (one above the other) Lighthouse was a collaboration between myself and sound artist Isobel Anderson in 2008 and was screened at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and the Belfast Film Festival. Loosely based on text from Elizabeth Smart’s By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept, Lighthouse is a piece exploring the nature of destructive relationships and lost love in a quietly intense manner.

2006-2007 Producer and Director of TO/BE/BRAVE (2006/2007) a live performance and sound piece commissioned by the Arts Council and part of Against The Grain Festival in Norwich. Through this piece, the project explored themes of marginalisation and fragmentation, the roles that we create for ourselves, and the roles forced upon us, within modern  society. Find out more about it here.

July – August 2006 Art Department Assistant on Stephen Fry’s Kingdom series one: 2007 Jobs included: sourcing and buying props and building and dressing sets.

I trained as a Theatre Designer at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama, London in 2004. Work included: learning theatre-craft, costume history, acting workshops, directing workshops, building scale sets, technical drawing, lighting workshops, building props, life drawing and costume design and making. Here is an example of some of the work I did during this time.
